The South San Francisco biotech firm reported progress in its Phase II trial of XL-184, a potential treatment for a form of prostate cancer. Limited Brands(LTD 33.40, +1.53, +4.80%) shares gained 4.8% before the open. The operator of retailers including Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works reported higher third-quarter net income and declared a special dividend of $3 a share. LTX-Credence Corp.(LTXC 8.10, +2.12, +35.45%) shares leaped 35% in the premarket on news that it will merge with Verigy Ltd.(VRGY 8.80, -0.11, -1.24%). Both are California-based semiconductor-test-systems companies.

The Louisville, Ky., health-benefits provider affirmed its 2010 profit estimate of $6.40 to $6.50 a share and said it expects to report 2011 earnings of $5.35 to $5.55 a share. On average, analysts surveyed by FactSet Research expected a profit of $6.72 a share for 2010 and $6.15 a share for 2011.Sears Holdings Corp. (SHLD 63.48, -2.72, -4.11%) shares declined 4.8% in the premarket. The Hoffmann Estates, Ill., retailer reported a wider fiscal third-quarter loss on 5% lower revenue.SmartHeat Inc.
